The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office seeks help from the public in an ongoing investigation of animal cruelty. Police said that on March 15, 2006 on Porter Road, a large male dog appears to have had accelerant poured on its head, neck and lower abdominal area and then set on fire. The dog was severely burned and received treatment from a local veterinarian.

Case Updates

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for setting two dogs on fire in Tuscaloosa County, Ala. earlier this month.

According to police and published news reports, two dogs were burned in separate, but what police believe to be related incidents, near the city of Northport in Tuscaloosa County this month. The first incident occurred on March 5 on Porter Road; the second on March 16 on Frank Lary Road. In both cases the mixed-breed dogs were burned with accelerant while loose. The dogs are both under veterinary care are expected to survive.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department is investigating this case. Any information should be directed to deputy Ray Jacobs 205-752-0616.
