Two racehorses beaten Des Moines, IA (US)Incident Date: Thursday, Mar 2, 2006 County: Polk
Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is looking for the people responsible for abusing two race horses.
State Rep. Rick and Brenda Olson own the thoroughbred horses, and they found them injured on March 2.
At first, a veterinarian and sheriffs deputy thought the horses had been shot in the face, but now they believe it was some type of blunt trauma.
They are still trying to figure that out.
One of the horses and her colt died.
The attack has outraged animal advocates throughout the community.
"Either abuse or neglect, maybe even torture situations, but we're seeing a drastic number of increases in the number of horse cases," said Tom Colvin, Animal Rescue League of Iowa's director.
A $1,000 reward is being offered.
