Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Michael Padilla
Michael Padilla, 36, has been accused of beating his grandmother. Police are pursing an arrest warrant for the suspect and discussing what charges to file against Padilla. Sergeant Liello said, "We're trying to get the right charges."
The Albuquerque police swarmed Padilla's neighborhood on Tuesday after receiving reports he had beaten his 88-year old grandmother. He can also face charges for a reported rampage in the home in which he destroyed various picture frames, mirrors and glass was broken.
Padilla can also face extortion charges in connection with an attempt to demand money from his grandmother.
It was thought Padilla might have left the area for his mother's house in Deming, but the police do not know where he is.
The Albuquerque Animal Services officers seized 80 animals, including 39 pigeons,13 snakes, 12 fighting roosters, 11 rabbits, three doves and two turtles from the property located at 10909 Constitution Avenue N.E. The snakes were identified as members of the king snake family and ranged in size from 2-1/2 feet to 3 feet. "None of them are poisonous. They are friendly snakes."
In 1998 Padilla had 641 animals and the court ordered him to reduce the number of animals he owned.
Padilla said in 1998 that raising animals, especially exotic pigeons, was his life, and he threatened to retaliate against those who continued to complain about his pets.
In the present case, the removal of 80 animals, Padilla has 15 days to claim the animals that were picked up before they become city property. If they do become city property, they could be put up for adoption. References « More cases in Bernalillo County, NM
