Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

This dog was found wandering the streets by the Nashua Police Department's Animal Control Officer and brought to the Greater Nashua Humane Society.

The HSfGN staff named the dog Scarlet and at first it was thought that Scarlet had been used as a bait dog for pit bull fighting as her appearance showed wounds and bite marks all over her body.

When Scarlet presented herself as being a very friendly dog and not afraid of people (not typical of a bait dog) the staff called in a local veterinarian.

Scarlet was examined and it was determined that she had mange, secondary to a skin infection. She also had a viral infection and autoimmune deficiency because the mange went untreated for too long. Unfortunately Scarlet had to be euthanized because even if she did get better (there was better than an 80% chance she would not) she would need years of medical treatment.

If anyone has information on who abandoned Scarlet, they should contact The Greater Nashua Humane Society and The Nashua Police Department. In the State of New Hampshire it is illegal to abandon an animal under RSA 437:19.
