Twelve cats living in a Federal Emergency Management Agency trailer on Airport Road were confiscated Tuesday, March 14, by Charlotte County Animal Control.

The cats were fine, but their living conditions were "deplorable," said Lt. Brian Jones, with county Animal Control.

The cats' litter pans were not clean, and there was feces and urine all over the trailer, he said.

Authorities are investigating and might file charges of animal neglect against the woman who was housing the cats, Jones said. The woman was not living in the trailer at the time.

"Our objective is always to see them get to a better environment," Jones said.

The cats were brought to the Animal Welfare League at 3519 Drance St., Port Charlotte. Anyone who wants to help them can call the shelter at 625-6720.
