Hoarding - 40-50 dogs
Glendive, MT (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Dec 15, 2004
County: Dawson

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged:
» Sam Zeimer
» Barbara Zeo,er

Sam Zeimer and his daughter, Barbara Zeimer, pleaded guilty last week to a variety of misdemeanor charges. Sam to three counts of maintaining a public nuisance and one of cruelty to animals; Barbara to one court of maintaining a public nuisance and one of having animals running at large.

Suzi Hansen, program coordinator for the Northern Rockies Regional Office of the Humane Society of the United States in Billings, picked up 12 dogs from one of the owners in Glendive who were under a court order to surrender almost all of their dogs.

Justice of the Peace Ed Williamson said he imposed fines on the Zeimers. The fines will be suspended if the Zeimers comply with his order to reduce their collection of dogs to one dog each. Sam and Barbara Zeimer live in separate houses on the same piece of property.

The exact number of dogs owned by the Zeimers was not known, it is alleged they had about 40-50 dogs

After the Zeimers appeared in court, 25 of their puppies were put down at a veterinary clinic in Glendive. Hansen said she didn't know what happened to the other dogs other than the 12 she picked up and the one that went to the Miles City Animal Control.

The 12 dogs Hansen picked up will be going to several shelters in the area and be placed for adoption.

Two blind dogs will be taken to the Rolling Dog Animal Sanctuary in Ovando, which specializes in caring for and treating blind or otherwise handicapped dogs.
