A shivering five-pound Chihuahua stuffed in a birdcage and left in a wooded area near Elyria was rescued this week. "The Chihuahua was almost frozen to death," Debbie Parker said. "It had no food or water." Parker runs the Saint Francis Animal Sanctuary. Dr. Dennis Lehman is the vet who is nursing the dog back to health. The woman who found it wants to remain anonymous but he says she thought it should be humanely euthanized.

Parker is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who abandoned this dog.

Case Updates

It's a dog that has stolen hearts across northeast Ohio - that Chihuahua that was stuffed in a birdcage and left to die in the woods.
Well he's not out of the woods just yet. Many of you sent e-mail and called to adopt the dog.

Tonight, it got out of the vet's office for the second time in a week. It's suffering from pneumonia, but now doing better. The Saint Frances Animal Sanctuary thought they had the perfect home. But the Chihuahua was so sick, its new owners thought it would be better off at the animal sanctuary, so it was returned. It will now live out the rest of its life there.
