17 dogs seized from camper & pickup truck
Cheyenne, WY (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Feb 6, 2000
County: Laramie

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Shellie Zwolinski

Seventeen dogs were removed from a camper and pickup truck owned by Shellie Zwolinski, 32, of Portland, Oregon.

The dogs were reported to the police on Sunday as being left in a camper and pickup truck. The dogs had been left without adequate food or water at a truck stop for at least five days.

There were nine dachshunds, one shar-pei and seven shar-pei crosses. The dogs were taken to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.

Sgt Danny Glick of the Laramie County Sheriff's Department. The dogs were malnourished and dehydrated. Some of the dogs were found covered in their own feces and urine. Glick issued a summons for animal cruelty against the owner of the dogs, Shellie Zwolinski.

Zwolinski said she left Portland 12 days ago and that her rig broke down near Laramie. She had it towed to Cheyenne and was afraid to let the dogs out because they might be hit. The dogs had not been out of the truck or the camper for at least five days. She had visited them twice a day to take care of them.

Authorities said, "From all appearances, she was doing it poorly."

It would cost the owner $935 to get all the dogs back. Unclaimed dogs can be adopted by anyone.
