Mother dog dead, tied to tree - 9 puppies survive
Moultrie, GA (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Feb 28, 2006
County: Colquitt

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Investigators don't know who the dog belonged to or why she was dumped. Most of the surviving puppies have been adopted out, but some still need a good home, and the Humane Society needs to know who could be so cruel to the animals. Bob Sims Road in Northern Colquitt County is quiet. There isn't a lot of traffic here, but one person driving along this road saw something disturbing. "There were nine puppies and a mama and the mama had died. She'd been chained to a tree," says Moultrie Humane Society Director Don Flowers. She was unable to tend to herself or her puppies. Flowers says, "There's no words to describe it. I can't imagine somebody doing something to pets like these. It's bad. It's just sad."

The mother was tied to a tree without any access to food or water, even though a creek is just feet away. The rope was just too short. Flowers says, "They're sick. Sick people you know?" People who haven't been caught. That's why the Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2500 leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the death of the puppies mother. "They're wonderful dogs. They're part lab, make good family pets," says Flowers. They just need a good family to go home with.

Animals are euthanized at the humane society, but the puppies have been through enough and they will not be put down. If you're interested in adopting one of the three remaining puppies, call the Moultrie Humane Society at 985-5463. If you know who is responsible for leaving them out in the woods, call the Humane Society or the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office.
