weak sentence = one star
strong sentence = 5 stars

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Dog killed, thrown in dumpster
Columbus, OH (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Dec 31, 2005
County: Franklin

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Melissa N Grier

A 27-year-old woman with six children admitted that she abused a dog so badly that it died.
Mellissa Grier pleaded no contest Tuesday to animal cruelty charges, NBC 4 reported. Animal control officials said in January 2006, Grier called the county to report a dead pit bull in the Dumpster behind her apartment.

Investigators said it didn't take long to determine that Grier had killed the dog and threw it in the garbage. "It showed that the dog was emaciated, that means starved. It was 21.9 pounds when it should have been 45 pounds. It had a lack of body fat and it started to eat the tissue around the heart, the liver and intestines," said Joe Rock, of Franklin County Animal Control. Grier spent 12 days in jail. Judge Harland Hale placed Grier on five years probation and told her that she could not own or care for any animals during the probation period.
