While he was shopping February 11, 2006 at the CVS at the corner of Pio Nono and Montpelier avenues, two men stole his automobile and his dog.

Cogswell, 63, received a call from police who had found his minivan, but Peppy the dog was gone. "I slept two hours a night every night since" said Cogswell, who is offering a reward for Peppy's return. Peppy is a mixed-breed small female dog who is nearly a year old and weighs about 20 pounds. She is most likely a cross between a rat terrier and a dachshund, but because her ears stand up, she looked like a Chihuahua when she was a puppy, Cogswell said. The dog is mostly black with brown trim and was wearing a blue collar when she was taken, he said.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., a gunman in the drugstore parking lot walked up to Cogswell's friend, who was sitting in the van with Peppy.

The gunman threatened to shoot Cogswell's 60-year-old passenger, who quickly got out of the car, according to a Macon Police Department incident report. Another man joined the gunman, got in the van and they sped away, the report stated. "The dog was barking wildly and when they threw (my friend) out, he tried to get the dog, but they didn't let that happen. They were ready to go," Cogswell said. The two men drove off on Pio Nono Avenue heading toward Napier Avenue, the report stated. About 12 hours later, police told Cogswell they found his minivan in a church parking lot on Mercer University Drive near Poppy Avenue, which is less than a mile from the store. "I think as soon as they hit the highway, they pushed her out," Cogswell said. Anyone with information about the dog is asked to call Cogswell at 361-6524.
