Timmy White 29, of Route 34, Genoa has been accused of 59 misdemeanor counts of animal abuse regarding a herd of dairy cows in Spencer.

Timmy White will be in the Spencer Town Court on Feb 11 to answer charges he abused a herd of about 59 dairy cows on his Tioga County farm.

Tioga County District Attorney Gerald A. Keene said that if White is found guilty he faces a maximum of two years in county jail and a $1,000. White is free on a $2,000 cash bail.

An animal cruelty investigator Patrick Cartwright Jr brought the charges against White after finding six dead cows on Nov 5 at White's Ithaca Road farm. Cartwright with the Stray Haven Humane Society in Waverly was called to the farm on Nov 5 by a Tioga County sheriff's deputy when the deputy had spotted several carcasses at the farm.

Cartwright said, "They reported four, but when I got there we found six." There were possibly more in a manure pit, but we didn't check there."

White rented a farm on Ithaca Road in July, moved to a mobile home to the property and brought dairy cows to the farm. White had abandoned the cows at the farm. White's lawyer said White had made arrangements for the herd to be fed.

A bank repossessed 53 live cows in October which were malnourished and emaciated. Three of the repossessed cows were destroyed. The remainder of the the herd was sold.

PETA says they hope he is on longer allowed to own animals in the future.

If White is convicted, PETA has urged the district attorney's office to require that he undergo counseling at his own expense and be prohibited from ever owning animals again.

PETA said this is one of the worst cases it has seen and will keep in touch with the district attorney's office to monitor the case.
