An Omaha woman faces allegations of child abuse and animal abuse over conditions at her home on 63rd and Ruggles.

The Humane Society issued a search warrant there on March 6. Inside the home investigators say they found an uninhabitable mess.

The house was quickly condemned by the city. Police then removed a two-month-old baby from the house. There were also three dogs and several cats inside.

The mother of the infant, 32-year-old Tabitha Woods, faces several charges.

Mark Langan, with the Humane Society says, "This rates right up there with one of the worst cases we have seen. The place was trashed with feces and urine stains all over. The worst is having a two-month-old child there. So we're glad to intervene when we did."

Woods' boyfriend is also facing misdemeanor charges of child neglect.

At a house near 63rd and Ruggles streets, investigators said they found a 2-month-old baby and an 8-year-old in what they called "unlivable conditions." The children were taken into protective custody. Seven cats and three dogs were also removed from the home.

The woman, Tabatha Wood, faces animal cruelty charges for now. Police are investigating the alleged child neglect. "There (were) feces throughout the house, urine-stained carpets, urine-stained sheets, trash throughout the house." Child protective experts said the extra eyes of the Humane Society uncovers child abuse that might otherwise go undetected.
