SPCA authorities found a male cat severely beaten Feb 27 night in a Buffalo home. They are now investigating, and say whoever is responsible will face felony charges of animal cruelty.
The black cat, about one year old, was confiscated from an Amber Street home. SPCA officials said a friend of the apparent owner alerted them, after finding the cat beaten and bleeding.
"When we got there, it was obvious the animal had been beaten. There was blood everywhere. The animal was confined in a bathroom where it had been beaten," said Erie County SPCA Executive Director Barbara Carr.
Carr said she is surprised the animal survived, and that whoever is responsible will face felony charges of cruelty to animals, punishable by up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
The cat is recovering, though they are not sure what kind of damage was done to its eyes. When it was found, both of the cat's eyes were full of blood, and it was bleeding from its nose. It's believed the animal was kicked.
Because it has survived, the staff at the SPCA has named the cat "Steele." Eventually, they hope that he can be adopted. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
