Shanalee Webb will likely face a multitude of charges after 30 animals were recently confiscated from her home by animal cruelty investigators.

When the investigators from the Cocheco Valley Humane Society and Middletown police arrived at the Silver Street home of Webb on March 27, they discovered many animals living in squalid conditions.

Sandy Scott-Rainey, Cocheco Valley Humane Society said, "I was horrified by what I saw on the property, just from the driveway."

She saw a dead Vietnamese potbelly pig in the back of a pickup, several cats and dogs living in their own excrement. There was a large Doberman pinscher living in a house cluttered with trash and the animal's waste that was too small for the dog.

"It smelled to high heaven," she said.

Scott-Rainey was not able to contact Webb, so contacted the Middletown police. Sgt Randy Sobel of the Middletown police department said, "We helped execute a warrant and removed 30 animals."

Confiscated from the property were: three adult Doberman pinschers, seven Doberman puppies, three pregnant cats, a cat with four kittens, two Boston terriers, two ferrets, two Vietnamese potbelly pigs, a cockapoo, a Rottweiler/shepherd mix two cockatiels, an older male shepherd and a female German pincher.

Webb was reported to authorities by a local couple who had purchased a Doberman puppy from Webb. When they took their puppy to a veterinarian, they found out the puppy hadn't received any shots, it had mange, two types of worms and a tumor in its chest.

Webb had been conducting illegal procedures such as the administration of prescription animal medication, docking, clipping of the dogs' tails. One of the docking procedures allegedly resulted in a serious infection in one of the Doberman puppies.

The medication being prescribed randomly to the dogs was to treat a condition called Coccidiosis, a single-celled protozoan organism commonly found in a feces contaminated premises.

Investigators are looking into seeking the following charges: animal cruelty, selling animals without a state rabies vaccination, selling dogs under the age of 8 weeks old, practicing veterinary medicine with a license and improper disposal of dead animals.

Webb has contacted a lawyer.

The cost of treating Webb's animals so far amounts to almost $5,000. Some of the animals have been placed in foster homes and they are looking for foster homes for the other animals when they are well.
