Frank A. Ward, 61, of Skyline Apartments, 753 James Street, Syracuse was arrested by Oswego County Sheriff's deputies on Wednesday and accused of animal cruelty after finding approximately 40 dead poultry on his farm in Mexico.
The deputies said Ward didn't feed, water or provide shelter for three goats, 50-60 chickens, geese and a turkey at his farm at 318 County Route 16. The animals died of starvation and dehydration.
Officials were called by a resident Tuesday morning when she noticed no activity in the barn for several days. When the deputy arrived at the farm, he found dead chickens and geese inside and around the barn. The deputy also found three goats, a turkey and several chickens still alive but without any food, water or shelter inside a pen near the barn.
The Oswego County Highway Department disposed of the dead animals. A local 4-H chapter is taking care of the living animals.
There might be one more arrest in this case. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
