A couple has allegedly bludgeoned six puppies to death with a hammer amid a spate of animal cruelty cases in central Queensland. An outraged RSPCA today said it was investigating the gruesome deaths of the six cattle dog cross pups after yesterday inspecting the couple's property in the Rockhampton region. RSPCA central Queensland inspector Shayne Towers-Hammond said today the alarm had been raised by neighbours who were also concerned about alleged starving farmyard animals on the property. He said the puppies were about four weeks old. "To use a hammer on an animal ... for puppies to be killed in such a way ... is inexcusable," Mr Towers-Hammond said.
The pair face fines of $75,000 and two years' imprisonment if found guilty of animal cruelty, he said. Charges have not been laid at this stage. References
