70 dogs, large number of cats confiscated Conroe, TX (US)Incident Date: Tuesday, Aug 31, 1999 County: Montgomery
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: M. Ellen Williams
When the Houston SPCA investigated the property belonging to M. Ellen Williams on Hill Road, east of Conroe, they found 50 to 70 dogs and a large number of cats in poor condition on a 10-acre property strewn with trash.
They confiscated more than 50 dogs and an undetermined number of cats in poor condition Thursday from the property of the Grangerland woman.
Stacey Wilbanks, SPCA spokeswoman said, "We found terrible, terrible conditions."
Some of the cats and dogs had access to food and water, others did not. Some of them had severe cases of mange. Some of the animals were tethered to stakes away from shelter.
The investigators also found pigs, horses, barnyard fowl and a raccoon. The law prohibits the keep of raccoons as pets.
The livestock was found in good condition and left on the property. Williams is under investigation for possible misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty.
Williams can contest the confiscation of her animals at a hearing scheduled before Justice of the Peace Grady Spikes. References- Houston Chronicle - Sept 2, 1999
