Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Leokadia Worten

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

Leokadia Worten had eleven neighbors complaining at the Board of Supervisors meeting about the smell, the trash, the barking and rats at Worten's house. They said the problem had been ongoing since 1990.

When the police, fire, health department and animal control officers entered her home, they found dogs everywhere. They had covered their feet in knee-high wading boots and put on surgical gloves before entering the home. Twelve were in a Dodge Aspen, 18 in an old van and the rest in pens or tied to boxes.

A fire call Monday morning revealed what the firefighters called one of the worse scenes they've ever been to.

Worten was charged the following day with one count of cruelty to animals. Police Chief Jeffrey Brown said he expected many more charges.
