Hoarding - 10 cats, several dogs, gerbils, more Paterson, NJ (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Nov 18, 1998 County: Passaic
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Eve Rosenberg
The animal control officers raided the home of Eve Rosenberg, 24, on Wednesday morning because of a tip they received.
The raid took place at her Ryerson Avenue home that was raided two years ago where authorities found more than three dozen emaciated dogs and cats and the carcasses of 10 other pets. Rosenberg pleaded guilty at that time to numerous charges of animal abuse and paid a $10,000 fine. She also signed a court order agreeing never again to own a pet in the city.
The animal control officers on the Wednesday morning raid did not find any dead or emaciated animals among the 10 cats, several dogs, gerbils, birds, mice and turtles at Rosenberg's rented home she shares with a family of four.
Two of the dogs were locked together in a small cage with no food or water. Several cats were found in the bathroom with no food or water. Two of the cats were sick.
John DeCando, the city's chief animal control officer said, "We were there for the animals. The first time we went in there, the conditions were deplorable."
One of the charges Rosenberg faces in Municipal Court is whether she violated the 1996 court order barring her from having pets in the city.
All the animals that were confiscated on Wednesday will be examined by a county veterinarian to determine if they are healthy.
The people sharing the house with Rosenberg said every body in the house cared for the animals. City officials say that the animals belong to Rosenberg. References- The Bergen NJ Record - Nov 19, 1998
