An outpouring of concern for a cat caught in the middle of a dispute that turned deadly for its owner. "Dickie" is recovering from surgery after being stabbed and losing an eye. One neighbor was stabbed, the other shot to death. In the middle of it all, a cat named "Dickie". The knife went clear through the cat's eye socket and into its throat. Veterinary surgeons were unable to save his eye, but they saved his life. Jeffrey Kessler performed the operation, for the New York City Animal Care and Control Department. How and why the cat was stabbed is still not clear.

He was owned by an emotionally disturbed woman on Staten Island who went on a rampage on February 16, 2006 and attacked her next door neighbor with a steak knife. When she allegedly refused to drop the knife, she was shot and killed by an NYPD sergeant. The neighbor survived the attack. Witnesses told us the two women had been fighting bitterly over the cat for months. They say the owner neglected him, leaving neighbors to suffer the consequences. Tonight, veterinarians say the cat is surprisingly strong, and should be ready for adoption in a few more days. The neighbor who was attacked is identified as Linda Padula. She is listed in serious condition tonight.
