Sophie, a one year old cat, was found living under the front step of a house in Kingsland. Special Constables trapped her and took her to the Humane Society, where they discovered that someone had placed an elastic band around the animal's mid-section.

It cut into her tissue, then skin and fur grew over top.

Sophie needed surgery to repair the damage and could need another operation in the future.

Staff believe the band was put on the cat on purpose.

"The band's been in place for about three or four months," says Special Constable Kelly Barton, "so she would have been about eight months old at the time, so she was still in her growing stage at that point."
