A woman is facing possible charges after animal protection officers found dozens of neglected birds and emaciated animals in her Queensland residences. The RSPCA and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife today raided two Fernvale properties west of Brisbane. RSPCA Queensland Chief Inspector Byron Hall said dozens of chickens and pigeons were found in a house on one of the properties.

Authorities also found 49 native birds including cockatoos, kookaburras, magpies, lorikeets and galahs in various aviaries, as well as five dogs and a goat on an adjacent property where the 47-year-old woman now lives with her partner. "The birds were kept in shocking conditions while the dogs and goat were emaciated," he said. Mr Hall said he understood the woman moved across the road to live with her boyfriend in a caravan after the birds made her house uninhabitable. He said it was too early to decide if charges would be laid. "We have been seen a number of cases like this lately and usually it is more a case of the situation getting out of control," Mr Hall said.

"People take in animals but they are not prepared to part with them or ask authorities to help.
"It certainly doesn't seem to be deliberate cruelty." Mr Hall said the woman could face breach of care charges while there was also a possibility charges could be laid over the keeping of the native birds. A veterinarian is checking the animals.
