Frances L. Skidmore, 35, of Superior had an arrest warrant issued for leaving her two Rottweilers in a parked car for 10 hours, resulting in the death of one dog.

Skidmore failed to appear in Douglas County Circuit Court on Tuesday on six counts of mistreatment of animals, including two felony counts.

A warrant has been issued by Judge Joseph J. McDonald for her failure to appear in court for her scheduled court appearance.

On July 9 Skidmore left her two Rottweilers in a parked station wagon for about 10 hours while the outside temperature rose to 80 degrees. The dogs' gasps for air could be heard 50 yards away from the vehicle. One dog broke through the window to get out. The other dog eventually fell out of the car but had to be euthanized because of brain damage and internal injuries caused by the heat exposure.

The dog which survived had eight puppies four days later. The ninth puppy died two days later. A Superior Animal Shelter volunteer is caring for the surviving dog and the puppies. They will likely be put up for adoption in about two months.
