A Schenectady, NY couple has been sentenced after pleading guilty to running a pet store that served as a front for dog fighting and drug dealing.
Thomas Provencher, 42, was sentenced on Wednesday to concurrent sentences of 2 1/3 to seven years in prison for training an animal for animal fighting, and 1 1/3 to four years for possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.
His wife, Christine Provencher, 30, received five years probation for second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and training an animal for animal fighting, both felonies.
The couple was also ordered to pay $31,033 in restitution to the Animal Protective Foundation for the care and housing of the couple's dogs since they were rescued from the house during a raid last year. Half of the $21,000 seized in the raid will go to the Foundation. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
