Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
Police say they cannot identify the woman caught on a gas station's surveillance video footage dumping a cat into the woods last weekend.
The cat, now named Grace, is safe after its rescue by Milford Humane Society volunteers on the afternoon of Jan 31. A mother and her daughter had reported a woman pulled her red car over to the side of the Gasco parking lot, got out and dumped the cat in the woods in a mesh bag. The cat broke free from the bag and the pair was unable to save it on their own.
Although many involved had hoped the woman could be identified and charged with animal cruelty, Stockwell said the surveillance video is not the means. The two witnesses did not get a license plate and Stockwell said they disagree about whether another person may have been in the car.
Upton Police Chief Thomas Stockwell said his department remains interested in pursuing the case.
The cat is now at the Milford Humane Society's headquarters on Rte. 140. A veterinarian saw the cat earlier this week and said she appeared undernourished at 7 pounds, but otherwise alright, Humane Society officials said.
