A 21-year-old Crown Heights woman was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after her emaciated dog was brought to a veterinarian's office with stab wounds in the head. The Feb 2, 2006 arrest was the second time in less than three years that Jakina Temples of Park Place was charged with neglecting or abusing a dog.
Her roommate, 19-year-old Melice Thompson, was also arrested on Feb 2 and charged with animal cruelty by ASPCA Special Agent Robert Clark.
Snoop, a Doberman mix, had been stabbed several times in the muzzle, and he was partially paralyzed. He is recovering at the ASPCA hospital.
It is unclear who stabbed the dog. Temples was charged with animal cruelty because Snoop was emaciated.
ASPCA Special Agent Joseph Pentangelo said the dog was so thin that all his ribs and the ridges of his spine were visible.
"This dog was probably starved for many weeks, if not months," Pentangelo said.
In addition, there was an old scar around Snoop's muzzle indicating he had once been bound.
But most disturbing were the deep stab wounds, which had hit the bone.
Temples was arrested by the ASPCA in 2003 on charges of neglecting her dog Popcorn, who had an untreated broken leg and mange. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
