Hawk beaten with board Naples, FL (US)Incident Date: Wednesday, Feb 1, 2006 County: Collier
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Pedro Vergara
Pedro Vergara of Naples was charged in early February 2006 with attempting to take a migratory game bird. If found guilty he faces a fine of $100 to $500 and up to 60 days in jail. He's accused of beating a hawk with a board on Port-of-Prince Road in a trailer park on Isles of Capri.
"We get calls a lot but it's hard to get witnesses to come forward and that's the only way to get this done," said Officer Steve Wicker of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Wicker said he has two witnesses who will testify that Vergara beat the bird. The hawk has to be euthanized. References« FL State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Collier County, FL
