Case Updates

Ashley James Daldy, 18, admitted the charge after microwaving a bird to death on Feb 7, 2006.

Daldy appeared before Community Magistrate Mary Symmans on Feb 7. He also admitted two charges of wilful damage and five of burglary and is yet to enter pleas to four other burglary charges.

One of the burglary charges Daldy admitted was laid since his first appearance in court on January 24.

The details of the cruelty charge were not released to the court yesterday because Daldy had yet to enter a plea on burglary charges related to the incident.

Daldy will appear in court again on February 17 to face those charges.

It is understood Daldy killed the bird during one of the burglaries at a primary school.

He will be sentenced on the charges he has admitted on April 3. Ms Symmans remanded Daldy on bail.

Daniel Meredith, 19, another teenager charged with cruel treatment of a bird, was to appear in the Hamilton District Court today. Meredith also faces seven charges of burglary.
