A strange attack in a public park in Hall County involving a shotgun and domesticated geese. Shotgun pellets put people in danger, and killed two geese that were unable to flee.
A goose they've named Chrissy is the only survivor of a shotgun attack at a public park near Gainesville.
Rich Aiken of the Hall County Humane Society says it's, "Just a pure act of meanness. How can you get pleasure out of killing a defenseless animal?"
For the past year 3 domesticated geese have been living in a lake in Little Hall Park.
So friendly that it was easy for someone to blast them with shotgun.
Tina Cowen jogs near the park and says, "There were 3 shell casings right in this area." She spotted the wounded survivor.
Cowen says, "We found the one just sitting, squawking out here, sounded very distressed."
The geese in Little Hall Park were too heavy. Even if they sensed danger, could not fly away.
Aiken says, "An individual that would shoot geese like this can't be very stable. What else are they doing out there?"
The executive director of the Hall County Humane Society brought Chrissy to the Animal Medical Care Center. Chrissy had a fractured leg and a pellet wound that went from one side of the jaw to the other.
More than the killing and cruelty, whoever fired the shotgun in the public park is endangering people. Aiken says they need, "some counseling to find out why they have this anger. What would make someone be so cruel and heartless?"
Chrissy the goose will survive. But the other 2 geese are missing and believed to be dead.
Two people who heard the shots from the other side of the lake saw a man jump into a vehicle and speed away.
