In November 2005, the ASPCA investigated another cruelty case at another unit in the same townhouse complex on North Burgher.

Officers found Ebony, a 2-year-old pooch with a gaping neck wound that hadn't been treated for at least a month, lying in a backyard with no food, no water and no doghouse or other shelter.

Ebony's pelvic bones were protruding, and she was malnourished and infested with fleas. Her owner, James Allen, 44, was charged with animal cruelty. He pleaded guilty in January 2006, and was sentenced to 15 days of community service and a one-year conditional discharge.
