more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Dog starved to death Bronx, NY (US)Incident Date: Saturday, Jan 31, 2004 County: Bronx
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Luiz Martinez
A Bronx man who let his Chihuahua starve to death will now spend 350 hours cleaning up city dog runs. The community service assignment was part of an unusually tough sentence given to Luis Martinez, 23, after he pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.
Bronx Supreme Court Judge Megan Tallmer also slapped Martinez with three years' probation, barred him from having contact with dogs for three years and ordered him to appear before her every two months. The sentence begins in April 2006.
"The conviction of Mr. Martinez is gratifying," said Dale Riedel, a vice president of the ASPCA.
In February 2004, Martinez was arrested outside his apartment at the McKinley Houses in Melrose on charges of animal cruelty. He had left his dog locked in the apartment without food and water for more than a week. References« NY State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Bronx County, NY
