In February 2000, 12 dogs and 71 cats were taken from the Atchinsons. The Humane Society has taken at least 285 animals away from Ellen Atchison and her mother, Sunny, since 2000. Most have been euthanized, said Jacque Meyer, executive director of the Humane Society. A few have been adopted.
