A 1-1/2 -year-old Rottweiler named Jake was fatally wounded in a shooting incident Jan. 22 in Calais.

According to Vermont State Police in Middlesex, Jake was playing near his owner's residence near Lightning Ridge and George Road when he was shot in the afternoon hours. He returned home seriously wounded, was taken to Onion River Animal Hospital in Montpelier for treatment but had to put down the following day.

Police and Jake's "family," wrote trooper Heather Hunnewell in a press release, are looking for anyone with information on the crime to contact Hunnewell at the Middlesex barracks at 229-9191 or Central Vermont CrimeStoppers at 1-800-529-9998.
