A mother and son were arrested after they allegedly abused their cat so badly that it had to be euthanized, according to police.

On Dec. 17, Vernon Animal Control went to the home of Glenna and Robert Lodge on Vernon Ave. after receiving a complaint that there was an ill and injured cat lying face-down in a pile of snow.

When the officer found the cat it was dehydrated, emaciated, had open sores, and was having trouble breathing. When the officer tried to take the cat for treatment, the owners allegedly got in front of the vehicle and tried to stop the officer from leaving, according to Craig Segar, of Animal Control.

Lodge, 55, and her son Robert, 19, were charged with cruelty to animals, obstruction of an Animal Control officer, and disorderly conduct.

Robert lodge is being held at the Vernon police department until his arraignment on the afternoon of Feb 1 at Rockville Superior Court. Glenna bonded out and has been order to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Feb.14

Case Updates

A Vernon teenager and his mother are facing animal abuse charges after police say they killed their own pet. Vernon police officers arrested two people from the Rockville section of town who they say abused a cat, left it for dead, and then fought an animal control officer who tried to save the cat's life.

Police say the incident happened on December 17, 2005 when animal control was called to this building on Vernon avenue. They say a caller reported a badly injured cat lying in the snow. An officer found the cat with numerous wounds struggling to breathe. He tried to take the cat to the vet but was confronted by two people from inside the apartment.
