A woman in Pahrump is facing animal cruelty charges for something she thought was a caring act. Police have removed several animals from inside Page McCarty's home.
The animals range from dogs to goats to horses. McCarty is accused of leaving the pets without adequate food, water or veterinary care. It's believed she may have a mental health disorder that causes her to take in more animals than she can care for.
Regardless of the reason, county officials say they take animal abuse cases very seriously. Prosecutors say if McCarty is convicted on charges of cruelty to animals, she could face up to six months in prison and the possibility of fines. So far she has not been arrested.
