Eduardo Jose Ribaya was arrested with more than 75 other dog-fighting participants and spectators on February 12, 1995, at a regional dog-fighting championship held in a San Francisco warehouse. Ribaya, known in dog-fighting circles as the Pineapple Kid, was allegedly a central figure in organizing the brutal event.

According to reports, receipts were found for items Ribaya had purchased, including wood for building a fighting pit, and basins used to wash off any potential poisons applied to the dogs prior to the fight. Several trophies were also located, including one for "Gamest in Show".

When officers burst through a side door, they quickly located the blood-spattered fighting pit. Sections of its carpeted floor were saturated in blood. Among the dogs seized were two that were already dead, one of whom had a broken neck.

Ribaya was convicted of fighting a dog for gain, a felony, on November 7, 1995. Several other charges were dismissed pursuant to the plea agreement, including burglary, carrying a loaded firearm, conspiracy, and possession of a controlled substance. Ribaya was sentenced to three years formal probation and fines. No information is currently available on the other defendants.
