An Otis man was arrested for animal abuse in the second degree on Jan 23 after he allegedly threw a dog from a moving vehicle.

An Oregon State Police trooper was headed north on U.S. Highway 101 at about 11:45 p.m. when he encountered a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the highway near milepost 134 at Moolack Beach. The officer saw several people who appeared to be looking for something.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered a passenger of the vehicle, Danny Mcfadden, 42, of Otis had thrown the driver's pet dog out of the vehicle while it was traveling down that highway at around 55 miles per hour.

The driver also told the state trooper that Mcfadden had held a knife a few inches from her face in a threatening manner while she was stopping the vehicle.

The OSP officer noted Mcfadden was visibly intoxicated while being interviewed. A Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputy arrived on the scene to provide assistance, and Mcfadden was placed under arrest. As the deputy was transporting him to the Lincoln County Jail, Mcfadden reportedly tried to kick out the rear window of the patrol car. And once they arrived at the jail, Mcfadden assaulted a corrections deputy.

Mcfadden was lodged in the jail on charges of Animal Abuse II, menacing and recklessly endangering another person.

The driver, Dixie A. Johnson, 67, of Otis was also displaying signs of intoxication while being interviewed by the state trooper. She consented to, and failed field sobriety tests. She was arrested and taken to the jail on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. Once at the jail, a breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of .11 percent. The legal limit is .08 percent.

The dog was transported to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. According to OSP, the animal was muddy had a few abrasions on its head, but it did not appear to have any other injuries.
