Neglect of horse, beagle, turkeys and a duck
Putnam Valley, NY (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jan 29, 2003
County: Putnam

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Marius Floriea

A Putnam Valley man is held at the Putnam County jail on 15-thousand-dollar bail on charges of animal neglect.

Thirty-three-year-old Marius Floriea allegedly went out of state and left the animals exposed to frigid outdoor temperatures without adequate food or water.

When Floreia returned to Putnam County Feb 3 2003, he was arrested on six counts of abandonment of an animal and six counts of failing to provide proper sustencance. Each count is a Class A misdemeanor, which would send him up to jail for one year on each count.

Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith said his office received a call reporting animals left abandoned on proper Canopes Hollow Road in Putnam Valley. Deputies went out to the scene and found a 14-year-old mare, a male beagle, three turkeys, and a duck on the property.

A vet determined that the horse was malnournished, underweight, infested with mice and lice and suffering from severe respiratory problems. The dog was also in a weakened state and was malnourished. The animals were placed in the custody of an animal care provider in Dutchess County.

Floreia was in Texas. When he returned, he was placed under arrest.
