Charles R. Null, 50, of 201 E. Main, Apt. B was charged on January 18, 2006 with criminal damage to property and aggravated cruelty for allegedly shooting a dog Nov. 20, 2005. Null admitted shooting the dog during deer season to an official from the Illinois Department of Agriculture Bureau of Animal Welfare, Tazewell County Court records stated. The owner of the animal, Anita Rademacker, said her son found the family dog outside his kennel and held the dog in his arms until it died.

Null told officials the dog was chasing a deer when it ran by his deer stand and he saw the dog run into brush and shot it. He also was overheard at a local tavern admitting to shooting the dog, court documents stated. Each felony is punishable by up to three years in prison upon conviction.
