Anthony G. Perry, 25, of 484 Victory Highway, was arrested on January 17, 2006 at his residence when police found the body of the dead animal in a box and thrown out in a dumpster, according to Capt. Denis Smith.
Perry reportedly killed the cat in front of children, including his 18-month-old daughter, according to police. Smith said Perry became angry after the animal scratched him. A caller apparently tipped off police about the alleged cruelty and provided information where the dead cat was disposed. Perry, who is also charged with a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge, was summoned to appear in Sixth District Court in Providence on Jan. 24, 2006.

Anthony G. Perry, 25, of 484 Victory Highway, was arraigned on a misdemeanor count of mistreating an animal and released on $5,000 personal recognizance, according to North Smithfield police Capt. Denis Smith.
Perry was arrested Jan. 17 after police received information that he had killed the animal in his apartment and threw the body away in a nearby Dumpster.
Originally, police erroneously reported that Perry had kicked the pet to death in front of his 18-month-old daughter.
But a check of a police report gave a slightly different scenario of how the young cat, which Perry described as a jungle cat hybrid, was killed.
Perry told police that the toddler dropped food on the floor and the kitten started to eat it. When he picked up the animal to put in another room, the kitten started to growl and scratch at Perry.
He said got the kitten in the apartment bedroom and told police that he "smacked" the animal once. According to Perry's description of the event, the kitten "flopped around," then stopped moving.
During the investigation police found the dead animal in a box inside the trash bin. An officer reported that he saw a fresh injury on Perry's middle righthand finger and said he refused medical attention.
Perry's attorney, Vincent Oddo, of Providence, issued the following statement to The Call:
"My client, a young man and father with no criminal history reacted spontaneously to the aggression of the animal. In doing so, albeit well out of the presence of the minor child and in the absence of any malicious intent on his part, sadly and inadvertently, the animal died."
Perry told police he purchased the jungle cat hybrid kitten from a breeder in Sarasota, Florida.
According to an Internet search, a jungle cat hybrid is the cross breeding between a pure jungle cat and a domestic cat. Males can grow to 25 to 35 pounds with the females slightly smaller, according to the information. | Source: Woonsocket Call - Jan 25, 2006

Anthony Perry pleaded not guilty today to a misdemeanor in the killing of a cat.
Police said a neighbor called to complain that the man killed the cat in front of children, including an 18-month-old child. Perry allegedly killed the cat after the animal scratched him.
Police went to Perry's home on Victory Highway and discovered the cat's body in a box near the trash. He will appear in court again in two weeks. | Source: NBC 10 News - Jan 24, 2006
