Two people have been arrested in Clay County on animal cruelty charges. Seventeen-year-old Bonnie Ida Rogers was arrested January 12, 2006 at her home on Carter Spencer Road. Twenty-four-year-old James Donald Green turned himself in January 13, 2006.

Both are charged with felony animal cruelty. The pit bull, now named Max, is at the Clay County Humane Society.

Dr. Christian Broadhurst says Max weighed 28 pounds and was suffering from starvation, dehydration, parasites, and anemia. Dr. Broadhurst says Max had no fat or muscle. Clay County's Animal Crimes Detective says Max was found tied to a tree in the rear yard of the home a few weeks ago.

Max now weighs 40 pounds. The Clay County Humane Society says it's usually hard to find homes for pit bulls, but there is already a waiting list of families wanting to adopt Max.

Green is in the Clay County Jail. Rogers is in the Juvenile Detention Center in Jacksonville.
