Animal control officers in High Point removed more than 30 cats January 9, 2006 from what authorities said was a filthy apartment, and the home's owner faces charges. The cats were removed from the home of Mitzie Bowers at Oakmont Apartments off Deep River Road. Workers in Hazmat gear, along with police and firefighters, responded to the scene.
Authorities said neighbors had complained about the stench coming from the apartment. Urine and feces were found on the floor of the home, according to investigators. Bowers was charged with animal cruelty, authorities said. Regina Parker said she and other neighbors called police and city officials because the smell was unbearable and that "everyone's house was infested with flies."
Investigators said the cats would be taken to the Guilford County Animal Shelter and be put up for adoption. References« NC State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Guilford County, NC
