On January 6, 2006, 46 horses and three donkeys in Macon County were removed due to the owner's failure to provide adequate food and humane care and treatment, Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture announced.

The animals were impounded the animals from pastures on Stagecoach Road, Andersonville. All had low body scores. A low score is a sign of not getting enough food. The animals belong to Edna Reams.

"This is a deplorable situation. Some of the horses we impounded were like walking skeletons. We impounded the most critical animals yesterday and are getting the rest today. Some of the horses were lame and had hooves that were long and cracked due to lack of care. We also found 25 carcasses of horses and cattle at the site."
