Mayfield, KY (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Jan 10, 2005
County: Graves

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Carol Cooper

Graves County Sheriff's Department found thirty dogs locked in a house January 10, 2005 without food or water.

The home's owner, Carole Cooper wasn't home at the time. Neighbors said she would sometimes leave the dogs for weeks at a time.

Most of the dogs were malnourished and sick. Police said they found a dead puppy wrapped in a bag and thrown in the trash. Carole Cooper is facing thirty counts of animal cruelty. Police say Cooper called after the Newschannel6 newscast, and said she would turn herself in.

All of the dogs were taken to the Mayfield Animal Shelter. By Tuesday night fifty people had called into the shelter wanting to adopt.
