A 24 year old male reportedly intentionally drove hiscar in to a Home Depot store where the car burned with a pit-bull dog left inside. A cat was alleged to be in car also but was not found when firefighters extinguished the blaze. The suspect, Ali R. Warrayat was aprehended at the scene. Case Updates

An ex-employee of Home Depot who crashed his car into a Chandler Home Depot store last winter has been sentenced to five years in prison.

The judge also ordered Ali Warrayat to pay almost $900,000 in restitution during the man's sentencing in Mesa Tuesday morning.

Prosecutors said Warrayat plowed his car through the front doors of the home improvement store and tried to start a fire in the paint department.

Warrayat told police at the time of the incident on Dec. 18 that he was upset about a possible plan to erect a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to police reports.

He was originally charged with eight counts including aggravated assault, arson, endangerment and animal cruelty. A dog in his car died from the fire's toxic fumes, according to his attorney.

Warrayat had pleaded guilty to arson of an occupied structure and endangerment.

He apologized in court, explaining that he was off his medication when he crashed into the store.
