According to property owners, a group of teenagers had tortured cats, poisoning them, laying out steel traps and bludgeoning them with a baseball bat. More than 20 cats were killed.
Volunteers from the Danbury Animal Welfare Society literally had to herd cats in August at a farm on Sheriden Road. It took several visits before they got all the cats to the group's Bethel shelter.
One cat, named Simon, had been caught in a steel trap and was severely injured. He had multiple breaks and it was deeply infected. There was a chance his leg would have to be amputated, if he survived. It didn't have to be. Simon started to get better, said Dale Wyatt, DAWS co-chairwoman. But a month after his rescue, he died as a result of his injuries.
Wyatt said police had insufficient evidence to move forward with an investigation. References |
