CONVICTED: Was justice served?

Please vote on whether or not you feel the sentence in this case was appropriate for the crime. (Be sure to read the entire case and sentencing before voting.)

weak sentence = one star
strong sentence = 5 stars

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Case #6783 Rating: 3.4 out of 5

Pregnant cattle fatally shot
Casa Grande, AZ (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Dec 31, 2004
County: Pinal

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Convicted

Defendants/Suspects:
» Anthony Rodriguez
» Miguel Rodriguez

A couple of men decided it would be fun to go out into the desert with a high-powered rifle for a little target practice. Let's not get too technical about the fact that they were trespassing on private property or that the targets they decided to shoot were pregnant cattle. Or that they displayed a blatant disregard for the property value of the animals to the rancher who owned them. The fact that they were living creatures who were just doing what cows do and didn't warrant losing their lives was clearly unimportant. Obviously there was no "common sense" or respect of others involved whatsoever, just the idea that it would be fun to kill them.

The case involving the two defendants, Anthony and Miguel Rodriguez, was successfully prosecuted by Sara Priestly of the Pinal County Attorney's Office and both defendants pleaded guilty to undesignated class 6 felonies. I don't know the details, but I hope the rancher gets his money back. Congradulations to Ms. Priestly, who is a member of the Central Arizona Animal Cruelty Taskforce (CAACT)!
