On December 22, 2004 at approximately 10:45 am, Lubuns Paul Dumeus, 25, broke into the victims residence while he was at work by breaking out a window. Another family member was asleep in the residence and did not awake. The suspect took a butcher knife from the kitchen then went back out of the residence and took the familys dog, a medium-sized, black, male mixed breed, to the area of the by-pass canal and tortured it.

The suspect is a distant relative of the victim and was reportedly angry because the victim would not let him stay in the residence.

Witnesses observed the suspect throwing the dog to the ground repeatedly, attempting to stab it with the knife and sodomizing the dog with a stick. The dog was able to break free and escape. The suspect then fled and was located by Sheriffs deputies riding a bicycle away from the incident scene. He was arrested without incident. Animal services responded and released the dog to the owner (victim). Despite the attack, the dog was found to be in good condition.
