According to officials, Barbara Poston kept four dozen animals in her home, but not all of them made it out alive.

Catoosa County Animal Control delivered a search warrant at 98 Blanch Street. What they found was horrendous...forty-eight neglected cats and dogs, at least five of them dead. �The inside of the home was� There's really a loss of words to say what you could describe it as. It was a cruel situation,� described Chris Clark, director of Animal Control.

Neighbors said as far back as last summer, the remembered smelling the stench of animals. Clark said situations of animal hording often is a sign of mental illness, explaining it�s important for the former owner, Barbara Poston, to get help. The animals she once kept in her home are now in strict isolation, many of them suffering from a respiratory virus known as RSV. A veterinarian will inspect each animal.

�We'll find out later on what each one requires and, if at all, if they're able to be cared for,� explained Clark. At this time, they don't know which animals will live or what charges the district attorney may bring against Poston.
